Environmental noise - 04.02.2016
EU Commission has launched a consultation on the Environmental Noise Directive
The consultation aims to collect the views of citizens and associations of citizens, local and regional governments as well all other interested stakeholders, addressing specifically the relevance, effectiveness and EU added value of the Environmental Noise Directive.
The deadline to participate is 28 March 2016. -

The conference "Climate: how to help cities in achieving their ambitions?" will be held in Brussels in the frame of the European Year for development.

CEMR secretary general and spokesperson on environment talk about local actions to tackle climate change
In a video interview, CEMR secretary general, Frédéric Vallier, talks about local government action to tackle climate change, their involvement within international negociations and CEMR expectations vis-a-vis COP21.
CEMR spokesperson on environment and Councillor of Runnymede (LGA, UK), Linda Gillham, also participates in a video interview to present CEMR's commitments on climate towards 2030.
These video interviews took place during the World summit climate and territories in Lyon, on 1 and 2 July 2015

Two environmental awards for European cities, apply now!
The European Green Leaf is a competition open to cities with population of between 20,000 and 100,000. The prize recognises local government commitment to generate green growth and to stimulate citizens' environmental awareness and involvement.
The European Green Capital award is open to cities across Europe with over 100,000 inhabitants. This prize rewards every year cities making remarkable efforts in favour of a more sustainable urbanization.
Deadline for both competitions is Monday 19 October 2015.

Open letter: 5 networks of local government call for a decentralised production of energy
Natural gas will not be the solution, only decentralised local energy schemes will make the difference: this is what we pledged in a joint open letter* disseminated by the media Politico on 15 June.
In this document we reacted to a letter signed by six major energy multinationals, that calls for an efficient carbon market enabling the scaling up of gas as a solution to the climate problem.
*The open letter was signed by CEMR, Climate Alliance, ENERGY Cities, Fedarene and ICLEI.

Mayors from Latin America and Europe commit to tackle climate change
Mayors from the EU, Latin America and Caribbean met on 4 June in Brussels to discuss how local government from both regions can contribute to economic growth and tackle climate change. As a result of the discussions, local leaders adopted a declaration (available in English and Spanish) to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and set up projects to adapt their territories to climate change. -
CITYnvest - 12.05.2015
CEMR & CITYnvest are looking for translators
The project CITYnvest is planning to subcontract translation services for its documents and promotional material, like leaflets, press releases, texts for the website or policy recommendations. The contract will last three years and the translation languages will be English, French, Spanish and Bulgarian.
The application pack is available in English and the submission deadline has been extended to 23 May 2015.
CITYnvest is a project, in which CEMR is involved, that aims to support local government’s efforts to finance energy efficiency in public buildings.
