EU sustainable energy week - 05.12.2006

Take a week to change tomorrow (29/01 - 02/02 2007)
The European institutions, in cooperation with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and other stakeholders are organising the first "European sustainable energy week", from 29 January to 02 February 2007.

The week is aimed at raising the awareness of stakeholders and the general public on sustainable energy. It will consist of conferences and exhibitions in Brussels and in other cities across Europe.

On the third day, CEMR will present case studies on existing initiatives from local and regional authorities in the fight against climate change, with emphasis on the energy dimension (sound energy management, sustainable energy policies).

CEMR will also make policy recommendations to the European Commission on how to involve the local and regional levels in mitigation and adaptation policies.

How can municipalities and regions use energy in a sustainable way? How can we take advantage of market opportunities for more renewable energy? In what ways can urban transport contribute to a better air quality and to climate protection? These are some of the questions to which participants will answer during the week.
