The European Commission invites European towns to organise "Urban green days" for their citizens
The European Commission invites European towns ro organise local events on the theme of local sutainable government at the occasion of the second "urban green days" (UGD), from 31 May to 5 june 2005.
 
The 'Urban Green Days" aim at informing citizens and exchanging good practices in the field of sustainable local government to promote a better quality of life. Candidate towns can propose open-door days, field visits, school events, public events in markets, public squares and in shopping centers to their inhabitants.
 
The 'Urban Green Days" 2005 will focus on climate change, with topics such as sustainable transport, energy efficiency and renewable energy. Candidate towns can submit video-clips, photos and other material on the projected events on the 'Urban green days" website.
 
The best local sustainable cases will be included in a good practice study.
 
For inspiration, The 'Urban Green Days" events 2004 will be listed on the website. That same year, 250 UGD participants launched projects in the field of Green Travel, Green Charts, Green Homes and 'Green Neighbourhoods".
 
Urban green days is a European Commission, Directorate General Environment's initiative. It is co-ordinated by ICLEI (local governments for sustainability) and coincides with World Environment Day.
