NEST newsletter: best practices on new developments in environmental management
The city of Miskolc, its inhabitants, local banks and the Hungarian government have set up a successful partnership for the renovation of thousands of flats in the city.

This example of best practice at local level is one of the features of the second issue of the NEST newsletter: In Miskolc, more than 36,000 tower blocks apartments that were mostly built in the 70s needed renovation. The budget needed was such that the city decided to establish a financial partnership with various stakeholders. A third of the budget came from the Hungarian government, a third from the city of Miskolc and the last third from the flat owners. Local banks agreed to grant flat-owners cheap loans to enable them to make the necessary investments in the renovations.

The NEST newsletter also features other best practice examples and guidance for setting up environmental action plans such as in the municipalities of Olkusz in Poland and of Ancient Olympia in Greece.

The NEST newsletter is available in English, Polish and Greek.
