Vision for rural areas - 21.04.2021

Revealing the local vision for rural areas: join the discussions on 4 May!
The European Union is gearing up to prepare its vision for the future of rural areas. The vision will outline Europe’s common perspective and approach to the countryside, covering both challenges such as demographic change and lack of services, and the rural opportunities of the digital and climate transitions.

That is why CEMR is organising an online seminar – “A long-term vision for rural areas: What key priorities for local governments?” –  on 4 May to present local perspectives on this issue from the governments with the most direct experience and interest: municipalities and regions. Local elected politicians, MEPs and EU officials will exchange and share their views on how to make the most of Europe’s rural areas.

We will notably present the results of a survey of local and regional government associations’ views on uptake of EU funds in rural areas as well as CEMR’s own key messages for a thriving countryside where no place is left behind. Rural areas are not only about agriculture but also have great potential for economic diversification and capitalising on new technologies and rich cultural heritage. It’s time to change the narrative!

Join us on Tuesday 4 May to be part of the conversation and take the pulse of local Europe!

Time: Tuesday 4 May | 10.00-12.00
