Town twinning - 22.11.2006

Participate in town twinning! (new guide to the programme 'Europe for Citizens" 2007-2013)
In the framework of the European Commission's new programme "Europe for citizens" 2007-2013, European municipalities and cities are invited to participate in town twinning activities.

Town twinning is aimed at promoting direct exchanges between European citizens and encouraging the organisation of conferences or seminars on subjects of common interest to EU citizens. Its goal is also to contribute to strengthening mutual knowledge and understanding between the citizens.

A guide to the programme 2007-2013 has also been published for municipalities and cities wishing to participate in these activities. It includes the actions funded under the programme, the priority themes, the eligibility criteria as well as the budgets allocated to town twinning.

The deadlines for submission of applications are available on the EU Commission's website on citizenship and town twinning.

In the framework of town twinning activities, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) is organising, from 10-12 May 2006, in Rhodes, a conference of twinned towns. More information will soon be available on CEMR's website.
