The EU Commission, the Committee of the Regions together with 135 regions and cities are organizing the '2006 OPEN DAYS European Week of Regions and Cities", in Brussels between 9 and 12 October.

This year's focus is on 'Investing in Europe's Regions and Cities: Public and Private Partners for Growth and Jobs". The programme comprises 111 seminars, workshops and sessions in Brussels and another 70 local events across Europe.

The programme is presented under 5 major headings:
  • Investing in competitive enterprises and high quality jobs;
  • Fostering regional innovation;
  • Investing in sustainable use of resources and environmental technologies;
  • Supporting public-private partnerships for larger infrastructure projects;
  • Cutting red tape: Managing the Structural Funds between 2007 and 2013.
All together, more than 5,000 regional policy experts and stakeholders will discuss issues such as attracting investment, supporting innovation and sustainable development and public-private partnership arrangements. Two political highlight events - the Opening and Closing Sessions on 9 and 12 October - will be addressed by Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner, the President of the Committee of the Regions Michel Delebarre and other personalities. They will focus on the questions "How to make Europe's regions more attractive?" and "How to better organise public and private partnerships?"
