First newsletter of the Nest project: networking for sustainable development
The first newsletter of the Nest (Networking with Emas for Sustainable Development) project is now available on the project's website. It introduces the project and its first achievements.

The newsletter features articles on issues such as environmental management with local governments, best practice examples, and tools for the implementation of environmental management systems.

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) together with Global to Local ltd is responsible for the best practice work of the project; helping small local governments to implement environmental management.

Guidance documents and case examples in the field of a.o. sustainable construction, green and ethical procurement, waste management and -green' offices will be produced. One of the key outcomes of the project will be a manual for local governments on the process of how to implement environmental management systems.

Nest is a 3 year project funded by the EU Life programme. It aims to streamline and simplify EMAS (EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) in order to help small local authorities to implement environmental management systems. EMAS is an initiative designed to improve companies' environmental performance. The project team is composed of the Kirklees (UK) Metropolitan Council, Global to Local ltd, CEMR and 10 municipalities from Hungary, Poland and Greece.

The newsletter and best practices cases in English, Hungarian, Greek and Polish can be consulted on the NEST website .
