The main focus of the EU social dialogue work programme for the 2006-2008 period is on promoting exchanges of experience and joint actions on issues of mutual interest to employers and employees in local and regional governments.
The work programme foresees joint activities in four main areas:
- Strengthening social dialogue in the new Member States and in candidate countries;
- Supporting the reform process;
- Promoting diversity and equality;
- Evaluating experience in various forms of service provision.

CEMR and EPSU adopt 2006-2008 work programme for sectoral social dialogue
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and the European Federation of Public Services Unions (EPSU) adopted the 2006-2008 work programme of the European sectoral social dialogue committee on local and regional government. CEMR is represented in the committee through its Employers' Platform, which represents more specifically local and regional governments as employers.

The sectoral social dialogue committee was set-up in January 2004 by the European Commission following a joint request by CEMR and EPSU. The first work programme of the sectoral social dialogue committee covered the years 2003-2005 and included joint initiatives in the areas of European employment strategy, local and regional social dialogue...
