The chair of CEMR working group on energy to the Commission: "Green Paper target will be difficult to reach"
CEMR working group on energy chair, Volker Kienzlen, has commented CEMR's position on the Green Paper on energy efficiency in an interview on the European Commission's ManagEnergy website.

During the interview he stated that municipalities play a key role in the field of energy efficiency and they will have to make a big effort in order to meet the green paper objective of diminishing the Union's energy consumption by 20% by 2020.

Municipalities need a lot of buildings in order to offer public services. They will have to make sure these buildings consume as less as possible. Investments in energy efficiency can promote a market on efficient technology at the local level and hence these buildings can be an important role model for citizens. Investments in energy efficiency are also very effective because they allow municipalities, in the medium term, to make substantial savings on energy costs, said Kienzlen.
