Information society: the Eisco conference (2-5 June) addresses i2010
The 5th European Information Society Conference (EISCO) will be held in Cracow (Poland) from 2 to 4 June 2005.
This year's theme will be "i2010", the European Commission's programme to boost Information society in Europe. Participants to the EISCO conference will address the local and regional government's contribution to Information society as a contribution to the Lisbon Agenda .
The conference will be opened by the president of the Malopolsk region (Poland), Janusz Sepiol, and by the president of CEMR's ELANET network, Javier Ossandon. Poland's Minister for Science Research, Michal Kleiber, will speak at the conference. Other participants include the representative of EU Commissioner in charge of information society and media, representatives from other Directorate-generals of the EU Commission and representatives fo Europe's towns and regions.
Other themes are on the agenda, including: how can local governments use new technologies to increase citizens' participation to the local decision process, or how can they challenge the "digital divide"?
The conferecne's main organisers are ELANET (CEMR's network for Information society), CEMR and the Malpolska region.
