Local and Regional Dialogues on Cohesion Policy

Local and regional dialogues - 21.02.2018

A multiplier effect is needed to make cohesion policy better known in Vienna
After the kick off last year in The Hague in 9 November 2017, the series of cohesion local dialogues continues in 2018, to discuss among citizens, local governments and the civil society the added value of cohesion policy in their territories.

The second local debate took place in Vienna, on 2nd February 2018, organised by the Bürgerforum Europa. A major starting point of the discussion was that citizens were not really aware about EU-funded projects in their city. Many projects were displayed and discussed during the world-café debate (structured conversation in which groups of people discuss a topic at several tables, with individuals switching tables periodically and getting introduced to the previous discussion at their new table by a "table host). Three keynote speakers also attended: Julia Bachtrögler, research assistant at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Vera Tarnai from DG REGIO and Eva Pretscher, former Head of the Liaison Office of the City of Vienna to the EU.

As a conclusion, it was highlighted that beneficiaries of cohesion funds should work more as information multipliers of EU-funded projects in their region.
