The 8th annual 'Cities on Internet" conference will take place in Zakopane, Poland, from 23 to 25 of June 2004.

This conference brings annually together participants from several European countries: representatives from European Commission, Experts of IT sector, representatives of public administrations, SMEs, etc”¦

As every year, CEMR's Elanet network is actively supporting this conference by participating in the discussion and debates that will take place during the various sessions and by proposing best practices.

 

Elanet will be organising two workshops in the framework of the conference :

 

First, the Prelude workshop will present the results achieved by its nine thematic clusters built in order to bring forward the local and regional priorities in research, technology and innovation in the European arena. During this workshop, the main outputs of the project will be presented. In particular the web platform system to support local and regional dimension, policy guidelines, the Action Plan for the follow up of Prelude and the lessons learnt during the whole process will be presented.

 

The second one will present the challenges raised by the development of Free/Libre Open Source Software and the valid alternative it does represent for local and regional authorities. During this workshop both practical and legal aspects will be presented.

In the framework of the conference, Elanet (CEMR) is organising a meeting with representatives of national associations of local and regional governments from the new member States and the Central and Eastern countries. The aim of it is to discuss the forms of a future cooperation and their participation in the Elanet (CEMR) activities.
