Publication on results of European Local Authorities Competition for migrant elders now available
A publication showcasing the results of the European Local Authorities Competition (ELAC) for migrant elders is now available in English and German, enabling a wider audience to access information about initiatives.on the quality of life of migrant elders.

ELAC began in 2010 with the submission of a total of 34 applications by municipalities, cities and counties in the fields of housing, leisure, culture, social and intergenerational activities, culturally sensitive products and services, and volunteering for and by migrant elders. The 16 best projects were selected and invited to dialogue and exchange experiences with the other nominees.

'Through projects such as those presented in this brochure", explains Bjørg Tysdal Moe, CEMR political rapporteur on social policy and deputy mayor of Stavanger, Norway, 'we can gain further insight on how to enable inhabitants of local communities to become participators."

The cities of Edinburgh, Gelsenkirchen and Brussels were the winners of the competition, their initiatives having integrated migrant elders as equal partners and supported active ageing, empowerment and participation.

ELAC was launched by the German State of North Rhine Westphalia and the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), in partnership with the Committee of the Regions and under the patronage of the European Parliament.
