Europe for citizens forum - 12.10.2007
From intercultural dialogue to town twinning
To reward the best town twinning schemes and to debate on the issue of intercultural dialogue: these are the main objectives of the forum "Europe for citizens" organised by the European Commission, in Brussels, on 8 November.2007.
Local and regional governments are invited to participate in this forum which will be completed by a debate on the new forms of citizens' participation and mobilisation. Anders Knape, chair of the working group on twinning at the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, will speak at the session titled "Europe for citizens: a structured dialogue".
Jan Figel, EU Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Hannu Takkula, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament and President of the Golden Stars Selection Jury, and Odile Quintin, Director-General, DG Education and Culture, will take part in the event.
The 2007 "Golden stars" will also be awarded at the occasion of the forum. These prizes are awarded every year to municipalities that show the best achievements in town twinning. The 2007 winners are:
