Birth of the " World mayors'council on climate change "
The World's local governments are joining forces against climate change. The mayor of Kyoto, Yorikane Masumoto, has announced on 16 June 2005, the creation of the World mayors' council on climate change.
This new body aims at fighting global warming through cooperation between local governments.
Its activities will consist of promoting climate protection policies at the local level, developping international cooperation between municipalities to reach the Kyoto objectives (aiming at limiting greenhouse gas emissions), and forming local government delegations to meetings at the UN and other international bodies...
The inaugural meeting of the new Council should take place on the occasion of the 4th municipal leaders' summit on climate change, in Montreal, end November 2005).
