Eurostat ranking - 19.02.2010
How rich is your region?
Inner London, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Brussels and Hamburg are the richest regions of the European Union. This is what emerges from the latest ranking of Eurostat, the statistical office of the Union, published on 18 February 2010.
According to the survey, most of the leading regions in the ranking of regional GDP per inhabitant were in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Austria. It should be noted, however, that in some regions the GDP per inhabitant figures can be significantly influenced by commuter flows. Net commuter inflows in these regions push up production to a level that could not be achieved by the resident active population on its own.
The lowest regions in the ranking were all in Bulgaria and Romania, with the lowest figures recorded in Severozapaden in Bulgaria, followed by Nord-East in Romania.
