Local and regional structures in Europe: A new CEMR publication
What are the competences of the Dutch provinces? How long is the mandate of Ukrainian or Italian mayors? How many municipalities are there in Romania or in France...?

CEMR's new publication Local and regional structures in Europe answers these questions and many more.

We wanted to produce a brief guide to local and regional structures, says CEMR secretary general Jeremy Smith. The aim was to offer the reader 'at a glance' information; the administrative and political architecture of each state is summarised in a maximum of two pages. To collect and rewrite the information and data was a massive task; we would not have achieved it without the contribution of our associations.

The publication exists in two language versions, English and French; it explains the local, intermediate and regional levels of over thirty European states and describes the electoral or designation system of the main functions for each level, as well as the types of mandates and the competences therein.
