Digitalisation

How to promote the information and communication technologies (ICT) within municipalities and regions? What is the role of both local and regional authorities, and the EU, in this process? What are the future developments in electronic communication and the legislation?

 

These questions will be addressed at the seminar 'Promoting eInclusion at local and regional level in the EU", on 12 December 2007, in Lahti, Finland. The seminar is jointly organised by the city of Lahti, Päijät-Häme regional Council (FI) and the Committee of the Regions, in association with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).

 

With the European strategy for eInclusion to be launched in autumn 2007, this seminar will focus on the local and regional dimension of eInclusion in Europe. The event will look at the lessons learnt from innovative inclusive ICT projects and best practices from EU regions and cities in areas such as eAgeing, ICT network deployment and eGovernment. It will also include a study visit demonstrating how the Lahti region is engaging in improving eSkills and eAccessibility for its elder citizens.

 

Svein-Erik Wilthil, Chair of CEMR Policy Group on eGovernment and Information Society, will chair the third session titled 'Driving forward inclusive eGovernment". This session will include showcase examples of best practice of further increasing the availability of eGovernment and making it more user-centric.

 

Speakers will include representatives from local and regional governments, from the European Commission, the Committee of the Regions, as well as experts in the fields of ICT.
