Services of general interest - 03.03.2004
The Commission's proposals are available
The European Commission has published its documents (draft directive, decision and communications) on the increase of legal certainty for services of general interest (SGI).
On 18 February 2004, the Commission had announced its intention to propose new rules, mainly as a consequence of the Altmark judgment of the Court of Justice, in July 2003 (the ruling legalises state aids to SGI providers under certain conditions).
CEMR is preparing a response to the Commission's proposals; the position paper will be posted on our web site as soon as it will be adopted by CEMR working group on services of general interest.
