Two key debates will be taking place in Maastricht: one on gender equality and one on the future of Europe, at the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Maastricht treaty.
South-Eastern Europe - 17.04.2014Mayor of Lukač municipality (Croatia), Đuro Bukvić, has been elected President of the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS), during the organisation’s General Assembly in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
During its election, the new President stated: “Our objectives for the future remain the same: strengthening the democratic institutions, empowering the process of decentralisation”.
Mr. Bukvić is also the President of the Association of municipalities in the Republic of Croatia andex-officio member of CEMR Executive Bureau.
Executive Bureau - 07.03.2014Executive bureau held its annual meeting from 5 to 6 March in Athens. The Bureau members addressed three main points:
- The adoption of the study “Tackling youth unemployment: ‘Let's revive partnership between all Governance levels’”, jointly carried by CEMR and its member associations;
- The EU Urban agenda and the future of cities in Europe;
- Discussions around the Local Finance Benchmarking programme – which aims to analyse the impact of the economic crisis on local budgets in Mediterranean countries.
The meeting was hosted by the Vice-President of our Greek association (KEDE), Ioannis Kourakis, and the Mayor of Athens, Giorgios Kaminis. Besides, members of the Council of Europe and NALAS also attended the event.
